It’s been said that a cover / original band’s life expectancy is somewhere in the range of 2 to 5 years, and in some cases, if they’re lucky, maybe 10. Such has not been the case with the ANDY SMITH BAND from New Iberia, Louisiana, whom have been around for the last 20 years. They have played on stages in various parts of the United States, and also abroad in El Salvador and the Virgin Islands. A few of the reasons for the longevity and success of the band may be due to the fact that they have been able to give people music they want to hear, which has been music that people recognize and can dance to, and also Andy’s ability to read a crowd which enables him to know which song would work best for any situation. In that 20 years they’ve been very fortunate to share the stage with famous artists such as Aaron Neville, BB King, Better Than Ezra, Starship, Wet Willie, Leon Russell, Sammy Kershaw, Lonnie Mack, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Bob Weir of THE GRATEFUL DEAD.
The band performs over 230 dates a year at weddings, private parties, nightclubs, and festivals. A few of the events the band has played for are the National Shrimp Festival and Bayfest Music Festival in Alabama, the Balloon Festival in Natchez, Mississippi, the BB King Blues Festival in Indianola, Mississippi, the Louisiana Sugarcane Festival, the International Rice Festival, the Louisiana Hot Sauce Festival, the Ron Guidry Golf Tournament, the Louisiana Golf Tournament, the Cypress Bayou Casino’s Employee of the Year Party and their New Year’s Eve Party.
